Buddy is a native of Conway, South Carolina, and graduated from Clemson University in 1969. He attended Clemson on a football scholarship and was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1967. The Clemson Hall of Fame inducted Buddy in 1985, and in 1996, he became a member of Clemson’s All-Centennial football team. Additionally, he was inducted into the S.C. Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. After graduating from Clemson, he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army and retired after two years of service.
In 1971, Buddy joined John Hancock Life Insurance where he was named the No. 1 agent in the country among first-year associates.

Buddy serves as an active board member of the Coastal Carolina University Philanthropy Initiative and is also on Clemson University’s Board of Visitors. Buddy and his wife, Pamela, have been married 39 years, live in Georgetown, and have one son, Buddy III. They are members of the All Saints Episcopal Church on Pawleys Island. Buddy enjoys golfing and spending time on the beach.
Buddy III followed in his father’s footsteps and attended Clemson University. He walked on to the football field as a kicker. After graduating from Clemson in 2004 with a degree in economics, he took a job with a large insurance firm that took him to Charleston, Charlotte, and Greenville.
In September of 2014, he came back to Myrtle Beach to work with his father. Buddy enjoys golfing, fishing, and any sporting event.
